Accreditation of Programmes Section 5(i) of the Act empowers Council to "ensure minimum standards of study and the equating of degrees" and section 5(m) empowers Council "to promote national interests in courses of study and professional qualifications." Like other statutory agencies in neighboring countries, Council's method of fulfilling these requirements is to accredit all courses taught in institutions of higher learning.
Working with relevant professional bodies, Council will soon begin to accredit all professional disciplines in universities and later in non-university institutions. As the capacity of Council increases, accreditation of programmes will be extended to non professional disciplines. All this is for the public good: to make sure Ugandans consume quality education.
